Serum Levels of Interleukin-12 and Interferon Gamma in Pediatric Tuberculosis: A Clinico-Microbiological Correlation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Objective: The interleukin-12/interferon-γ (IL-12/IFN-γ) pathway is the most validated cytokine regulating Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. role of IL-12/IFN-γ axis in protecting against (TB) exhibited people having mutations genes encoding these cytokines. We aimed to study serum levels IL-12 and IFN-γ pediatric their correlation with clinical microbiological features. Material Methods: A case-control was conducted on 60 microbiologically confirmed (smear and/or culture cartridge-based nucleic acid amplification test) or clinically diagnosed (based features radiography contact history Mantoux test with/without confirmation) TB patients ≤12 years. Serum interleukin-12 interferon-gamma were estimated using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays.Thirty age- sex-matched controls also included study. Results: median lower our (488.1 pg/ml) compared (784.8 pg/ml). However, IFN-γ/IL-12 ratios significantly higher among as controls. Moreover, interferon gamma cases no evidence chest radiography. hydrocephalus enlarged ventricles. Higher associated positive results by conventional techniques. Conclusion: level ratio children this well Further studies larger sample sizes could help evaluate usefulness interferon-γ potential markers severity prognosis TB.

Serum Levels of Interferon-Gamma in Patients with Diabetic Retinopathy
Background: In recent years, numerous studies have addressed the role of other factors, especially the immune system, on developing diabetic retinopathy. Given the role of interferons in regulating immune system activities, the present study was conducted to investigate serum levels of interferon-gamma in patients with diabetic retinopathy. Materials and Methods: The present research was condu...
متن کاملIncreased serum levels of interferon-gamma and interleukin-12 during human brucellosis.
Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease that often becomes chronic with a high rate of recurrence. To understand the cytokines induced during this infection we determined the levels of interleukin (IL)-1beta, IL-2, IL-4, IL-8, IL-12, tumor necrosis factor-of (TNF-alpha) and interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) in serum of patients with brucellosis and compared with those without brucellosis and controls. Con...
متن کاملLevel of Interferon Gamma in the Blood of Tuberculosis Patients
Background: Interferon gamma (IFN-γ), a cytokine produced by a variety of cells is involved in the immune response against M. tuberculosis. It activates the production of other cytokines and molecules that kill mycobacterium. IFN-γ also has diagnostic role in identification of active and latent tuberculosis. Objective: To determine the level of IFN-γ in the blood of TB patients. Methods: Ninety...
متن کاملEffects of single-dose interleukin-12 exposure on interleukin-12-associated toxicity and interferon-gamma production.
Interleukin-12 (IL-12) is a key regulator of cell-mediated immunity that has therapeutic potential in cancer and infectious disease. In a previous Phase 1 dose escalation study of a single test dose of recombinant human IL-12 (rhIL-12) followed 14 days later by cycles of five consecutive daily intravenous injections every 3 weeks, we showed that a dose level up to 500 ng/kg could be administere...
متن کاملThe Effect of 12 Weeks of Interval and Continuous Training on Serum Levels of Interleukin-17 and Interleukin-10 in Postmenopausal Breast Cancer Survivors: A Clinical Trial
Introduction: Breast cancer is one of the inflammatory diseases, and physical inactivity is one of the risk factors. It has been suggested that exercise training can improve breast cancer outcomes by modulating inflammation. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of 12 weeks of high-intensity interval training and moderate- intensity continuous training on serum levels of IL-17 and I...
